Description

Our quality Japanese Bancha is from Tuzuki-gun, Ujitawara in Kyoto prefecture. Bancha is a beloved Japanese green tea favorite. It is tea harvested after the first picking in the springtime for Sencha, this second harvest starts in June, and includes the upper stems and larger leaves usually left out of Sencha production. Bancha produces a gentle cup of green tea that is less fragrant and slightly more astringent than younger Sencha. Its flavor is fine, light, and clean tasting. Bancha is wonderfully refreshing, and known in Japan as a palate cleanser after meals. The brewed tea has an exceptionally green vegetal aroma, and a yellow green tea liquor that would brighten even the dullest of days!

One of the nicest banchas I've ever tried. As another reviewer pointed out, it almost tastes like a sencha in terms of how creamy and mellow it is. Very little bitterness or astringency (I only brew for one minute, however) and very easy to drink. The caffeine content listed on the site seems to be pretty accurate, as compared to other green teas I've had, this one has much less of a stimulating effect. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for a low-caffeine green tea without compromising on flavour.

Wonderful marine flavours. Almost as lively as a sencha. A calm, smooth drink. Clean and slightly creamy. Scent of linden blossoms.
Such a nice morning tea.
I brew cool and long in a kyusu at 66°C for over 3 minutes to bring out the slight astringency that I favour.

nice bancha for a nice price, originally had a little bit of a packaging scent however after airing the tea out briefly it dissipated. simple, vegetal infusion with not too much sweetness. lived up to my expectations and no flaws that I have found. no complexity but that's to be expected with this tea.
