Keijo Saemidori Sencha – Luxury Umami-Rich Miyazaki Sencha

Keijo Saemidori Sencha is a luxury green tea grown in Miyazaki Prefecture on the southern island of Kyushu, Japan. It's made from leaves picked early in the first-flush harvest, lightly steamed in the traditional fashion and rolled into elegant needle shapes.

The Saemidori tea bush was developed in 1969 by crossbreeding Yabukita, Japan's most popular tea cultivar, with Asatsuyu, a cultivar known as "naturally grown gyokuro" for its sweetness. The result is a cultivar prized for its vivid green color, natural sweetness and rich umami — qualities that shine in this exceptional sencha.

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf: fine, needle-like and deep green
  • Aroma: fresh greens that fill the whole room
  • Flavor: full, umami-rich sencha
  • Character: delicate, fresh and full-bodied
  • Finish: smooth, with no bitterness

Why You'll Love It

While your Keijo Saemidori steeps, the whole room fills with the aroma of fresh greens — testing your patience as you wait! At first sip, you'll enjoy a full, umami-rich sencha without any bitterness. It's truly a luxury, full-bodied Japanese tea with the freshest aroma, naturally rich in antioxidants and L-theanine.

My favorite tea after many years trying so many. Half the fun is just smelling 3 g tossed into a preheated gaiwan. Smells to me like sugar cookies in the oven or stew or even roses etc. Great umami and avoids the problem of astringent mouth I have had from so many teas. Great taste and good buzz!

This is a very delicious, smooth tea with umami richness. This along with the Sencha Miyazaki are my favourites so far, with this tea taking top spot.

Did not care for this tea or the Sencha Miyazaki. Both had a strong mineral taste. Almost minty. Neither were bad- I finished both bags. But I would not order again. I recommend the Yame Gyokuro or the Matcha Iri Sencha.
